Junior High 7–8

Challenge, Independence, and Preparation

Navigator Pointe Academy’s junior-high program serves students in grades 7 and 8. Students deepen their academic knowledge, take greater responsibility for their learning, strengthen communication and problem-solving skills, and prepare for the expectations of high school.

A Utah-Aligned Junior-High Program

Instruction is aligned with the Utah Core Standards and organized around the knowledge and skills students need in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and other current school-approved courses. Teachers use clear instruction, discussion, reading, writing, problem solving, investigation, practice, and assessment to help students progress.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

Students read increasingly complex texts, develop evidence-based interpretations, write for different purposes, and strengthen discussion and communication skills.

MATHEMATICS

Students develop mathematical understanding, fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving through the school’s current Utah-aligned mathematics courses and resources.

SCIENCE

Students use evidence, models, data, and investigation to study the current seventh- and eighth-grade Utah science standards.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Students build historical and civic knowledge, evaluate sources, discuss important questions, and communicate claims with evidence.

Growing as Learners and Community Members

Junior-high students are expected to take increasing ownership of their preparation, choices, work, and relationships. PATH gives students and staff a shared language for the habits and behaviors that support learning, belonging, responsibility, and positive participation across the school.

INDEPENDENCE

Students learn to manage materials, deadlines, class transitions, and increasingly complex work.

COMMUNICATION

Students practice asking questions, explaining their thinking, listening to others, and communicating respectfully.

CHARACTER

Students connect academic effort with NPA’s values of Respect, Responsibility, Courage, Honest, Self-Discipline, and Excellence.

Preparing for the Next Step

The seventh- and eighth-grade experience is designed to help students build the knowledge, learning habits, self-advocacy, organization, and resilience they will need in high school and beyond.
